This page lists your assignments for the week of April 27th, 2009 - May 1st, 2009. All work must be done in class. Each groups story will be due on Friday May 1st and presentations will begin on Monday, May 4th, 2009. There are no exceptions.

Monday: Vocabulary Words
Today, you will be getting into groups, in which you will later be writing a story together. As a group, chose a topic and main character that you all would like to make your story about. Once you come to a consensus, everyone is required to look through their notebooks for past learned vocabulary words that will fit well with their part of the story.

Read pages 30-35 in your textbook, that explains the main aspects of writing a story.

Here is an example of a first grade class that told a story, with each student having a chance to speak. They incorporated technology by showing their story and illustrations in a video.

Tuesday: Technology
Today, you will all learn about technology and finish up any unfinished work from yesterdays class. I decided, that it is important for you to learn how to take pictures and upload them, as well as create pictures in paint on the computer. You will learn the different ways that you can create your story, through things such as videos, PowerPoint presentations, Podcasts, or even just creating illustrations online and printing them.
Please click on the link below, and search around this website, to learn more about technology.
Learning How to Use Technology

We will be listening to this Podcast together as a class, so you all can get a better idea about what a Podcast is like.
Podcast

Your assignment today, is to create a sample drawing of a main character and setting, through the paint application or any other computer program that allows you to do so. As well as create a PowerPoint presentation with only two slides, a title page (with the name of your story, and your name), a long with a page with at least one image and at least 3 sentences about the introduction to your story. This should hopefully help you to feel a little more comfortable with PowerPoint. Please send me an e-mail with an attachment by the end of class today. (athomas@knights.ucf.edu)

Wednesday: Writing
Now that you all hopefully know a lot more about technology, you need to discuss with your group how you want to create your story. After the past two days of assignments, you should be able to come to some sort of consensus. As a group, you need to pick a group leader that can put each part of your stories together.
Click on the link below for help in learning the writing process.

You each have an assignment due by the end of class, which you will need to save on the computer you are working at and send it attached in an e-mail to me. This worksheet will not take you very long, and should help you in learning how to find new words when writing your story.

Thursday: Grammatical Errors
For class today, you will be working primarily in your groups to put together each of your stories. If you make your story a video, it needs to be 3-5 minutes long, and if you present as a PowerPoint, you need to have at least one slide per group member. By the end of class today, your group leader needs to tell me how you are going to present your story, so that everything will be ready for you to present on Monday. Each group will have up to 25 minutes on the computer today, since there is not enough for everyone. When you are not at the computer, you should be revising your stories, to make sure there are no grammatical errors. Read pages 41-48 in your textbook on Grammatical Errors, to help you revise all of your work. The story is due in class tomorrow, so make sure you can finish most of it up today, you will only have 30 minutes of class time tomorrow.

Friday: Revision
For the first 30 minutes of class today, you will be in your groups, revising all of your work. Everything needs to be complete, and ready to turn into me by the end of the 30 minutes. Be ready to present on Monday!
Since you have been working very hard this week, for the rest of class, I am going to give you a word search that you can do with your group, just for fun.
